Another holding centre for ‘illegals’ opens in Malda

Malda: Another holding centre for illegal Bangladeshi immigrants opened in Malda on Wednesday, the third in the district, reports Subhro Maitra.The new centre has come up in Bamangola. The first holding centre in Malda opened at English Bazar while the second at Old Malda. Malda SP Anupam Singh said with the new centre, the three holding centres can house between 250 and 300 inmates combined.Twenty-three infiltrators were detained in Malda over the past month. Further, around 160 Bangladeshi nationals were taken to the English Bazar centre from Basirhat in North 24 Parganas.BJP MLA Gopal Chandra Saha said: "There is no room for infiltrators here. Our govt has made its intention clear. We are not going to feed them as guests for long."
