Kanpur: Police in Etawah district arrested a tractor driver,
Komal Singh of Aheripur in Bakewar police station area, for possessing an illegal weapon. The accused threatened his wife by pointing the firearm at her, before going to Aheripur police outpost with the gun and cartridges. It was later that he revealed he did all that only to experience what it was like to be lodged in Etawah jail.
The incident took place in Aheripur on Sunday. Police investigated the matter, produced him before court and he was sent to jail.
It was when police brought him to hospital for medical examination on Tuesday that he revealed his intention. A video of the incident is viral on social media, which TOI does not verify.
Komal Singh said at the hospital that he had been in possession of a country-made pistol for quite some time. On Sunday, for no rhyme or reason, he threatened his wife
Sangeeta with the pistol.
After that, he went directly to the Aheripur police outpost carrying the pistol and two cartridges. Police took him into custody on charges of possessing the illegal weapon. According to the accused, he wanted to see the central jail, which was why he trained the old pistol on his wife.
Meanwhile, Bakewar police station in charge Inspector Vipin Malik said the accused was roaming the area with the pistol. He said police registered FIR under relevant sections after the arrest and produced him before the court, from where he was sent to jail. Malik also said it appeared the accused was a drug addict. He was sent to jail and the matter was under investigation.
