Cops release 3 ‘USRA cadres’ after women protest

Churachandpur: Three alleged United Socialist Revolutionary Army (USRA) cadres, who were apprehended by Assam Rifles from T Munjang village in Churachandpur town on Thursday and were handed over to police, were released later in the day following protest by women.The trio were held on charges of illegal possession of arms.Once news of the arrest spread in the wee hours of Thursday, women gathered at Pengjang village and took out a demonstration in front of an Assam Rifles camp, along NH-102(B), blocking the highway and disrupting traffic.While the identities of the arrested individuals were not revealed, the women demanded their unconditional release.Later, the protesters marched to the Churachandpur district police station, where the three were being held. They continued their protest, raising slogans and demanding their release.The protesters remained steadfast in their demand, and at around 3 pm, the three men were released.
