Aizawl: Officials of the Mizoram animal husbandry & veterinary department on Thursday said 2,281 pigs have died due to African Swine Fever (ASF), while 683 pigs were culled across 6 districts between January to June 3.
Earlier, on Wednesday, 62 pigs died in the state, with majority of belonging from Kolasib’s Lungdai village.
The officials further said the number of deaths have been less than half of the number of casualties which were reported during the same period in 2025. While 4,629 pigs were killed, 1,451 pigs were culled during the aforementioned period last year.
This year, the first ASF case was confirmed at central
Mizoram’s Serchhip district on January 16.
The resurgence of the outbreak has so far affected 752 pig farming families across 67 villages in 6 out of 11 districts in the state.
