GHAZIABAD: A 19-year-old girl died and her friend was critically injured when their sports bike struck a divider on NH-9. Ikra, a resident of Pasonda, Teela Mor, was driving the Yamaha R-15, while her friend, Haseem, sat pillion and filmed the ride. Neither of them was wearing a helmet.Police have recovered a 30-second video from Haseem’s phone.ACP Wave City Priyashri Pal said a passer-by informed the police at 4.25am on Sunday that a bike had collided with a divider near the Misalgarhi underpass. A police team reached the spot and took the injured people to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared the girl dead. Haseem remained critical.“They left their homes at 11am on Saturday. Their families were not able to contact them. No complaint has been filed, but an investigation is underway,” she said.In 2025, the city witnessed an average of three accidents per day, resulting in more than one death and two injuries. As per the traffic department data, a total of 1,007 accidents led to 376 deaths and injured 770 people across Ghaziabad during this period. In 2024, the city recorded 996 accidents, resulting in 381 deaths and injuring 789 people. The numbers were similar in 2023, when a total of 991 accidents resulted in 365 deaths and injured 704 people.
