Namakkal: A sub registrar and his assistant were arrested on Tuesday for demanding and taking a bribe of Rs 30,000 to register a settlement deed regarding a property.The arrested have been identified as sub registrar Manoharan and his assistant, a document writer named Sathish. The duo was arrested after sleuths from the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption (DVAC) raided the joint-2 sub-registrar office on Mohanur Road, following a complaint.“More than 10 DVAC sleuths suddenly raided the premises and arrested the accused following investigation and recovery of the bribe money.A DVAC official said, Subramani, a truck driver in Namakkal, had approached the sub-registrar office to register a settlement deed regarding a property that was due to him. However, registrar Manoharan and his assistant Sathish demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000. Subramani agreed to pay Rs 30,000 as the first instalment and filed a complaint with Namakkal DVAC Inspector Prabhu. AActing on the complaint, a team of DVAC sleuths raided the office after Subramami handed over the bribe and seized the Rs 30,000 from the accused duo.Meanwhile, members of the public who had come to the sub-registrar office for registration purposes had to wait for about three hours due to the raid.
