Lorry driver killed in blaze after road crash in Krishna district

Vijayawada: In a ghastly road accident, a driver of a container lorry was burnt alive after the lorry he was driving lost control and hit another tipper lorry on National Highway 16 near Veeravalli village in Bapulapadu mandal of Krishna district on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. The deceased was identified as C Surendra, 23, a resident of Yeleswaram in Kakinada district.According to Veeravalli police, the tipper lorry had halted on the roadside due to a tyre puncture. Another speeding lorry rammed into the stationary vehicle, leading to a massive fire. The impact and subsequent blaze engulfed the vehicle, leaving the driver trapped inside. He was burnt alive before any rescue could be carried out.Upon receiving information, the Veeravalli police rushed to the accident spot and initiated rescue operations and safely reached the second river from the ill-fated lorry. Subsequently, the fire was later brought under control.A case has been registered, and the body has been shifted to the local govt hospital for postmortem.
