Kadapa police arrest two ganja peddlers, seize 2 kg contraband

Tirupati: The Chinnachowk police in Kadapa arrested two ganja peddlers with interstate links and seized 2 kgs ganja from the possession of the accused. Kadapa additional SP K Prakash Babu revealed that the arrests were the result of sustained surveillance on local drug distribution networks.Acting on a tip-off, an enforcement team led by Chinnachowk circle inspector B Ramakrishna Reddy intercepted the suspects during a targeted raid in the Prakash Nagar residential area. The arrested men have been identified as Katigandla Ramesh Babu (46) and Chilakala Chan Basha (37).Investigation revealed that Ramesh Babu regularly traveled by train to the Odisha border to purchase bulk quantities of high-grade ganja from a wholesale supplier named Nagesh, based in Enuga Guda village. He then smuggled the contraband back to Kadapa to sell at premium rates to a network of local sub-dealers. Among his regular buyers were the co-accused, Chan Basha, Basha’s wife Subbamma (alias Pyari), and another local operative identified as Korrapati Ramesh Babu.The police have booked the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Following their formal arrest, the duo was produced in a local court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. A wider investigation is currently underway to track down the source in Odisha and apprehend the remaining local distributors linked to the syndicate.
