Varanasi: Mugalsarai police of Chandauli district on Wednesday arrested four individuals aged between 19 and 21 years, accused of allegedly looting a man of Rs 1.34 lakh on May 21 near Chaurhat.
The police identified the accused as Aryan Shrivastava, Shivang Pandey, Mohammad Tariq Ansari, and Dev Sarkar alias Dayal.
According to police, the accused looted Mehtab Ahmed, cashier of a firm, while he was returning to his office after collecting dues in cash worth Rs 1.34 lakhs from the shopkeepers in Padav market on May 21.
Police registered an FIR based on the victim’s complaint and examined footage of nearly 70 CCTC cameras installed on the probable routes of the movement of looters.
Chandauli ASP Ananth Chandrashekhar said the police got the big breakthrough on Wednesday when the informers alerted the cops over the presence of the four accused near a marriage lawn in Chaurhat village.
The cops reached the site and arrested all the four accused, recovering Rs 60,000 cash, 2 motorcycles used in the incident along with 4 mobile phones and the victim’s bag from the looters.
During interrogation, the looters divulged names of their accomplices assisted in their criminal activities.
They said that they indulged in crime like loot to enjoy lavish life and meet the demands of their girlfriends. They also said that they had divided the cash looted from Mehtab after the incident.
