Trichy: Three people including a 28-year-old pregnant woman were killed in a crash involving a car, two-wheeler, and a stationary truck near Aravakurichi in Karur district on Tuesday. Two people including a child sustained injuries.
Karur police said V Aravindh, 30, his wife A Janani and their two-year-old daughter were travelling in a sedan car from Bengaluru to their native Usilampatti. Janani was eight months pregnant. The car was driven by P Veera, 40, of Usilampatti. While approaching Esanatham junction near Aravakurichi on Salem-Madurai national highway around 6am on Tuesday, a two-wheeler attempted to cross the highway. Veera tried to steer the speeding vehicle away from the two-wheeler, but the car hit the two-wheeler and then rammed a stationary truck on the roadside.
Veera, Aravindh and Janani were killed on the spot. The couple’s daughter and the two-wheeler rider P Pandithurai, 32, of Aravakkurichi were injured. The injured were admitted to a private hospital. Bodies of the deceased were moved to Karur govt Medical College Hospital for autopsy. The Aravakurichi police are investigating.
