Jamshedpur: A first-year MBBS student of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH) recently filed an online complaint with the National Medical Commission (NMC), accusing senior students of mental harassment and interference in hostel room allotment.Taking note of the allegations, the NMC has sought a comprehensive report from the college administration. The report must detail the specific accusations and spell out the corrective measures taken to address them, the council said.According to the complaint, the student faced psychological distress on the hostel premises. The complainant also alleged that seniors pressured him to occupy a room of their choosing, defying the official assignment made by the college administration.MGMMCH’s anti-ragging committee (ARC) has launched a formal inquiry, questioning several senior students and collecting evidence. College officials said the probe is being conducted with sensitivity and fairness to ensure justice.“SDO of Dhalbhum has directed the DSP (Patamda range) to investigate the matter extensively and report it soon,” said MGMMCH principal Dr Sanjay Kumar. He added that the ARC is also looking into the issue.
“We need to wait till the probe is over to conclude anything,” he said.On Jan 13, 2024, three students from the 2019 batch were expelled from the hostel and fined Rs 25,000 each over ragging allegations. On April 15, 2024, five girls from the 2022 batch were reprimanded for assaulting peers. On April 23, 2024, a 2021-batch student was suspended for 15 days for harassing a junior. On July 3, 2024, nine second-year students accused fourth-year seniors of harassment.
