2 fires within 12 hours in Ghaziabad
A fire broke out at a Sahibabad furniture factory around 5am on Wednesday
Ghaziabad: The city saw two fires within 12 hours — the first at the emergency department of a hospital on Tuesday night, followed by a fire at a factory early on Wednesday morning. No casualties were reported from either incident.Around 10pm on Tuesday, a fire broke out at the emergency ward of the Santosh medical hospital. The fire department was called to the scene, but the hospital staff managed to control it by the time the fire tenders arrived. At the time, four patients were present inside and were all evacuated safely. Fire officials said the fire broke out in a spot where oxygen and nitrogen cylinders were kept due to an oxygen leak. Hospital management used the fire safety system on the premises to snuff out the blaze. The second fire broke out at a furniture factory site in Sahibabad around 5am on Wednesday. Vaishali fire station sent out two water units to control the blaze.According to chief fire officer (CFO) Rahul Pal, firefighters surrounded the fire from all sides. Due to the intensity of the fire, the tin shed of the factory collapsed, which created difficulty in extinguishing the fire, he said.Firefighters used a JCB machine to remove the tin shed and brought it under control before the blaze could spread to nearby residential buildings.
A site inspection was conducted once flames had been snuffed out.“In the preliminary investigation, the cause of the fire appears to be an electrical short circuit. The factory owner was not present at the spot at the time of the incident. A Hyundai Venue car, a motorcycle, a DG set and other goods were burnt and destroyed. There was no loss of life of any kind in this accident,” CFO said.
