Nagpur: Three miscreants laid a trap and robbed Khilesh Sahu, a manager at a Raipur-based forex exchange company, of Rs7.16 lakh near Ambazari Lake on Wednesday afternoon. Cops didn't rule out an insider hand behind the robbery.
Khilesh was in his office at Rani Jhansi Square when he received a WhatsApp call from an unknown person. The caller claimed he had $7,500 that he wanted to exchange urgently with Indian currency. Sahu asked for proper documents and details.
The caller contacted Sahu again around 3.30pm. Believing it to be genuine deal, Sahu left his office on a scooter with Rs7.16 lakh cash. The caller first directed Sahu to Futala Lake, then changed the location to behind a hospital near Ambazari Lake.
As Sahu reached the spot, three men on a scooter came from behind. Police said they threw chilli powder into Sahu's eyes, blinding him temporarily, and snatched the bag containing the cash and his mobile phone before fleeing.
Visibly shaken, Sahu managed to click a selfie and send it to his boss, informing him about the robbery. He was later admitted to a nearby hospital.
Ambazari police rushed the spot after getting information and later registered a case. Police are scanning CCTV footage from the area and trying to identify the scooter used in the crime. Police are also trying to get cellphone details, SIM card details and tower location of the miscreants.
