Mangaluru: A consultation meeting was held on Friday with organistions led by MLC Ivan D’Souza regarding the establishment of circuit bench of the high court in Mangaluru. For many years, there has been a demand for the establishment of a HC bench in coastal Karnataka. Various organisations have been submitting requests for this. Seven years ago, a committee was formed to fight for this demand, and it has repeatedly put forth its requests. Chief minister Siddaramaiah has now shown a green signal for the establishment of the bench, said D’Souza. The high court Chief Justice has also shown interest in this matter. A consultation meeting was held with over 15 organisations, he said. Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) president P B Ahmed Mudassar, and leaders from various organisations and institutions participated in the meeting held at MLC’s office on Friday. MLC Ivan D’Souza, who is also the convener of the High court circuit bench Horata Samiti met former Supreme Court judge and Andhra Pradesh Governor Justice S Abdul Nazeer in the city on Saturday, and held talks regarding the establishment of the HC circuit bench. The MLC spoke about the developments regarding the establishment of the circuit bench, including steps taken at government level, future steps and discussions held with Karnataka HC chief justice.
