Tuticorin: DMK MP
Kanimozhi and BJP leader Annamalai on Tuesday condemned the alleged sexual assault of a young woman in Ervadi, Ramanathapuram district, and called for stronger measures to ensure women’s safety.
The case was registered at the Srivaikuntam All Women Police Station, and two men were arrested in connection with the incident on Monday.
In a post on X, Kanimozhi said, “Women’s safety has become a major question mark. When CM Vijay and his team stop the habit of blaming the DMK as if it were election season, realise that they themselves are the ruling party, and start acting with responsibility?”
Annamalai, in his X post, said, “The question arises whether TVK, which came to power claiming alternative politics, is now treading the same path as DMK.” He also called for effective safety measures to prevent such incidents from recurring.
Police said the two accused allegedly lured the woman with a promise of employment and sexually assaulted her at a private lodge in Ervadi after administering a sedative.
The accused were identified as Balamurugan, 32, of Arumugamangalam near Srivaikuntam, and Jayapal, 34, of Ramanathapuram district.
Following a complaint, both were arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
