Kolhapur: A 15-year-old boy and a 50-year-old man died in separate drowning incidents in Kolhapur and Solapur districts on Tuesday, the police said.
In Kolhapur, Vishwajeet More (15), a resident of Mhasve village in Gargoti tehsil, drowned in a stream of the Vedganga river while swimming with friends around 4.30pm.
The police said the teenager ventured into the middle of the stream, but failed to gauge the depth and drowned. Locals pulled him out and took him to a hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. He was about to enter Class X.
In Solapur, Dhondiba Gaikwad (50), a farm worker, drowned in the Sina river in the morning. Around 9.30am, Gaikwad had gone to the river to wash his clothes when he slipped and fell into the water. His body surfaced a few hours later and was recovered.
The police have registered accidental death cases in both incidents.
