Kottayam: Not only was CPM state secretary M V Govindan criticized at the party’s Adoor area committee meeting, some members took the opportunity to ridicule his news conferences.Citing the song ‘Cham Chacha Chom Chacha’ from the Jayan-starrer ‘Love in Singapore’ (1980), party members stated that no one really knows what the lyricist, the composer, the singer, or even the listener is supposed to make of that song. They directly compared the song to Govindan’s news conferences. Some members even demanded that Pinarayi Vijayan step aside from the post of leader of opposition and set an example. The meeting also called for an investigation into allegations that some CPM functionaries promised votes and swindled money by claiming they could deliver certain community votes. In Adoor, CPI did nothing apart from fielding Priji Kannan, members said. Criticism also arose that the ‘negative vote’ against three-time MLA Chittayam Gopakumar was what led to Priji Kannan’s defeat.
