13 gamblers held in late-night raid; Rs 5.63 lakh seized

Jhansi: In a joint operation by district police and the Special Operations Group (SOG), 13 gamblers were allegedly caught red-handed during a raid on Tuesday night., with the cops seizing Rs 5.63 lakh, along with half a dozen vehicles and 15 mobile phones.According to police, the raid was conducted following a tip-off, after which the team surrounded the location and apprehended the gamblers while they were engaged in betting activities.All the accused were sent to jail on judicial remand on Wednesday, police said.The arrested persons have been identified as Devesh Pratap alias Vicky Gurjar, Kuldeep Sahu, Jafar, Harimohan Rajput, Rajkumar, Shahid Khan, Akash, Mohit, Pradyuman Yadav, Rahish Ahmad, Rajnath Singh, Abhay Pratap alias Ashish Gurjar, and Anand Shukla.The accused had come from different places, including Jhansi, Jalaun, and Datia in Madhya Pradesh, for gambling.Some of the accused were also from neighbouring districts of Madhya Pradesh, police said.Circle officer (Moth) Ajay Shrotiya said a case has been registered against all the accused under Sections 3 and 4 of the Gambling Act at Samthar police station.The seized vehicles have also been impounded under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
