Bhopal: A seven-year-old boy died and three members of his family fell seriously ill in a suspected food poisoning case in Satna district’s Unchehra block, with authorities still trying to determine the exact source of contamination.
Sources said the family consumed homemade food on the night of May 20, after which members began suffering from severe vomiting, diarrhoea and dizziness. The condition of the child, identified as Kishun Daheriya, 7, deteriorated rapidly, and he died before he could be provided advanced medical treatment. Three other family members, including the boy’s grandparents and elder brother, were later admitted to a private hospital. They are stable.
“The kin first took the kid to a private facility, and then he was later brought to Community Health Centre (CHC) as brought dead. The condition of other family members was stable. We have sent teams to the village. Water samples have also been taken and sent for laboratory tests,” Unchehra block medical officer Dr AK Rai told TOI.
Following the incident, teams from the health department and Public Health Engineering (PHE) department reached the village and collected water samples from the family’s well for testing. Officials also initiated awareness measures in the area, advising residents to avoid stale food, properly wash vegetables and consume boiled or filtered drinking water during the summer months.
