Woman stripped, molested by brother-in-law; 3 booked

Pilibhit: Three persons, including a man accused of stripping and molesting his sister-in-law, have been charged in a village under Neuria police station, more than two weeks after the alleged incident.Police said the case was registered on Monday on the direction of Superintendent of Police Sukirti Madhav after the woman approached her with a complaint.The 30-year-old woman alleged that the incident occurred on Feb 23 when she went to her elder sister's house in a nearby village after receiving a phone call from her informing her that her husband was beating her.She said that when she reached the house with her husband, her sister had stepped out to fetch drinking water from a handpump. While her husband remained outside, she waited inside the house.In the meantime, her sister's husband returned home and allegedly abused her and questioned her for trying to protect her sister. He then allegedly grabbed her, knocked her down, tore her clothes, and molested her. Hearing her screams, her husband rushed inside and rescued her.The woman alleged that despite approaching the local police station with a written complaint on the same day, the police initially declined to register an FIR. Action was taken only after she approached the SP.SHO Subhash Mawi said the key accused, along with his parents, have been booked under BNS sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 74 (criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), and 76 (criminal force to a woman with intent to disrobe her). The accused are yet to be arrested, he said.
