Mumbai, Jun 25 () Triggered by growing awareness of investors and lacklustre show by traditional asset classes, systematic investment plans (SIPs) are set to double in the next couple of years both in volume and value, says a report.

French banking conglomerate BNP Paribas SA is in talks to buy out geojit financial services Ltd in the institutional broking joint venture BNP Paribas Securities India Ltd, said sources directly briefed on the matter.

Broking firm Geojit BNP Paribas Financial Services Ltd registered a profit after tax (PAT) of Rs 15.75 crore in the third quarter ended on December 31, 2013, an increase of 21% from Rs 12.99 crore in the year-ago period.

French banking major BNP Paribas has bought 34.35% in geojit financial services for about Rs 207 crore ($47 million).

Foreign portfolio investors continued their withdrawal from Dalal Street this week, with net outflows reaching Rs 35,475 crore. Middle East tensions and elevated crude oil prices have fueled investor caution, leading to a risk-off approach. This sustained selling trend marks the highest monthly outflow for 2026 so far.

Mumbai, Feb 8 () The sixth largest retail brokerage geojit financial services today set a target of doubling its customer base to 2 million from over 9 lakh now over the next five years and will also hire 1,000 more market professionals to service them.

The Nifty followed a similar trajectory as the sensex and closed 311 points lower at 17,016. RIL, ICICI Bank and ITC led the day’s slide while buying in IT stocks, which witnessed relentless selling in the previous few weeks, cushioned the fall marginally.

A steep slide in crude oil prices globally, an overnight rally in the US market and Chinese govt’s explicit support on Wednesday for the country’s battered stock market lifted investor sentiment globally. This also spilled over to Dalal Street on Wednesday which led to renewed buying that added a little over 1,000 points to the sensex as it closed near the 57K mark after three weeks.

The sensex reversed early losses to close 0.4% higher on Monday helped by buying in Reliance, ICICI Bank and Airtel amid gains in global equities.

Falling crude oil prices, slower pace of selling by foreign funds and a steady global market helped the sensex post a 617-point gain on Wednesday, closing at 53,751 with FMCG, financials and IT stocks leading the rally.
