That is all from this game and another day at the ICC Men's Under-19 World Cup 2026. West Indies never let South Africa into the contest and cruised to a comfortable win. Action resumes on Friday, 23rd January 2026, with two matches starting at 7.30 am GMT - Bangladesh vs USA and Australia vs Sri Lanka. Do join us for all the updates. Cheers!
Joshua Dorne, the captain of West Indies Under-19, describes it as a phenomenal victory and says words cannot explain how he feels. He shares that the coach gave them a pep talk, which proved really helpful. Adds that the knock from Zachary Carter was really special and that he is happy for him, as his knock put them in a very strong position today. Mentions that the coach simply reminded them of everything discussed leading into the game. Calls it a special bowling effort from Shaquan Belle. Further says that it is really valuable to have two quality spinners who showed great composure. He notes that picking up these points places them in a good position and adds that they want to carry this momentum forward.
Muhammad Bulbulia, the captain of South Africa Under-19, says that it was a disappointing outing despite a really good effort with the ball and a target that was chasable. He praises the bowlers for being outstanding through the middle overs and bowling superbly at the death. He highlights that the five wickets from JJ Basson were crucial as they came at a time when West Indies were taking the game away. He adds that every game from here on is a must-win and that they will try to win them all.
For scoring 114 off 104 balls, Zachary Carter is chosen for the Player of the Match award, ahead of Shaquan Belle (6/40) and JJ Basson (5/23). The West Indian batter says that his mindset was simply to maximise the Powerplay, move through the gears and help the team post a good score. He adds that it is an extremely important knock after a couple of low scores. Mentions that this century means a lot to him and hopefully will provide the motivation to the team. He also believes that they have the potential to go very far in the tournament.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
The bowling and catching from the West Indies was top notch throughout. Shaquan Belle was on fire, the speedster hunting down six wickets and never allowing any South African fightback to blossom. The rest of the bowling unit supported him decently, and as mentioned before, the fielding from the Caribbean team was excellent. Overall, a perfect day at the office and a well-deserved win in the bag.
In reply, South Africa never really got going in the chase. They negotiated the first five overs watchfully and without loss, but wickets soon began to tumble. Inside Powerplay 1, the top three were back in the hut, and from there, momentum was hard to come by. There was brief resistance as Jason Rowles stitched together partnerships with Armaan Manack and Daniel Bosman, but once those stands were broken and Rowles departed, the chase quickly nosedived. The lower order did attempt a late rally through Lethabo Phahlamohlaka, who threw his bat at a few lusty blows, but it was too little, too late, with precious little support at the other end.
Earlier in the day, the West Indian batting rested squarely on the shoulders of Zachary Carter, who scored a magnificent century. Beyond him, there were a few promising starts but nothing of real substance, with no batter able to kick on. The standout phase was the partnership between Carter and Jonathan van Lange, which steadied the innings after West Indies slipped to 115 for 4 following a dramatic over that cost them three wickets. With the ball, JJ Basson was the star, bowling with control and purpose to finish with a deserved five-wicket haul.
It was an easy win in the end for West Indies, a clinical performance shaped by their bowlers and superbly led by Shaquan Belle, whose class left the South African batters searching for answers. With this victory, West Indies sealed second place in the Group D points table and, importantly, will carry vital points to the next round, while South Africa finished third, both teams trailing an Afghanistan side that dominated the rest of the group.
