Vijay’s much awaited ‘Jana Nayagan’ saw multiple roadblocks for its theatrical release and still remains a question of when for the fans. The film was expected to arrive in theatres during the Pongal season in January, but it is still awaiting certification clearance.
In the latest development, reports suggest that Vijay has asked the makers to refund distributors who have been waiting for months without clarity on the release.
Distributors to receive refunds
According to a SCREEN report, Mohan Suprith, business head of the production house KVN Productions which backed the film, confirmed the development and said, “While we are still in talks, we have decided to refund the money to the film distributors. We felt it was unfair to keep them in the loop while we are still waiting for a possible release date.”
‘Jana Nayagan’ long wait For certification
According to reports, the film has remained stuck because of certification-related issues. The movie was originally scheduled to release on January 9 but could not make it to theatres. The film initially received a recommendation for a UA 16+ certificate from the regional panel of the CBFC. However, the final certification process later became part of legal proceedings, which delayed the release.
Even after several months, there is still no official update regarding when the certification process will be completed.
The delay has reportedly affected both distributors and theatre owners. Reports suggest that distributors had to return crores collected through advance bookings after the release was postponed. In addition to it, amid all these issues, the film was also leaked online in HD quality.
Should the filmmakers refund distributors due to the long wait for certification?
