So, India have now moved into the third spot courtesy of another thumping victory. However, they will still need another such win and also depend on the result of the game between Afghanistan and New Zealand. That game is on Sunday, 7th November though. On Saturday, there are two crucial games which will help us find out which two teams along with England will go through from Group 1. First, Australia will face West Indies and that will be followed by England locking horns with South Africa. All to play for, for those sides, action there begins at 2 pm Local and (10 am GMT) and the second will be at 6 pm Local (2 pm GMT). See you there. Till then, take care and goodbye!
The Indian skipper and the birthday boy, Virat Kohli, says that they are sitting just under the semi-final cut-off line and they would see what happens on 7th November. Adds that things did not go well for them in the first two games and losing the toss also hurt them. Informs that they wanted to restrict Scotland to around 100-120 and then chase it down. Says that they targeted to chase it down in 8-10 overs but is happy that they did it earlier. Adds that they played really well in the warm-up games but a couple of overs of bad phase in the first couple of games hurt them. Credits Shami and Jadeja for the way they bowled and he is pleased that everyone is performing well. Informs that having his family here in these times is a celebration for him.
Kyle Coetzer, the skipper of Scotland, says that they were outclassed totally but they will improve after this type of game. Adds that Mark Watt has been excellent for them. Tells that the players will find some positive out of this. Says that Michael Leask is a fantastic player for them and is lovely to watch him play.
Ravindra Jadeja is the Player of the Match, he says that he was enjoying bowling as the ball was turning. Says that the first wicket was a special one. Adds that they knew that they have to win by a big margin and they played well. Tells that if they play like this no one can beat them and hopes they continue to play like this.
Stay tuned for the presentation.
Really not sure what positive can one write for Scotland! It was a day to forget for them. First, they were bowled out for just the 85. They then had to push this game beyond the 8th over but they have failed to do that too. Just nothing went their way. The only thing they can be happy about is the two wickets they got but that too after a real pounding. It just was not their day or probably not their World Cup.
A total carnage and it had to be! India needed to chase this down within 43 balls and they have done so without breaking a sweat. KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma did take a couple of balls to get their eye but once they did, they just smashed the ball to all parts of the ground. Both fell but by then the job was done. Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav walked in and ensured the effort by the openers did not go in vain. A win for India was never in doubt, the only question was, will they do it within 7.1 overs and they have done it with 4 balls to spare.
SIX! Suryakumar Yadav finishes things off in style. A full ball, on middle. Yadav lofts it high and handsomely straight down the ground for a biggie. INDIA WIN BY 8 WICKETS.
Short again, outside off. Yadav looks to cut but fails to connect it.
Short and on middle. Virat Kohli pulls it more off the inner half towards deep square leg for a single.
Suryakumar Yadav is the new man in. Also, Chris Greaves is into the attack.
OUT! TAKEN! A marvelous, marvelous knock by KL Rahul ends! Tossed up on leg. He looks to heave it down the ground but does not middle it. The ball goes high in the air to long on. Calum MacLeod settles under it and takes it.
Flatter ball, on off. Kohli works it past mid-wicket for one.
Darted on the pads. Rahul works it to the right of the bowler and takes one. 50 up for Rahul and he has continued where he left off against Afghanistan.
SIX! Helped on its way! Darted down the leg side. Rahul gets low and sweeps it over the fine leg fence.
Loopy ball, on off. Hit towards mid off.
FOUR! Thrashed! Full toss, on off. Rahul smacks it past the diving mid off fielder for a boundary.
Virat Kohli walks out to the middle. Also, Mark Watt is back on. Just 16 needed now.
OUT! LBW! A screeching yorker and a consolation wicket for Scotland! Right on the off pole. Sharma looks to get his bat down but he is not quick enough. The ball hits the boot and the umpire raises the finger right away.
FOUR! Another boundary for India! Short again, on off. This time, Rohit Sharma pulls it. The ball goes over mid on and runs to the fence.
Length ball, on the pads. Worked away to the leg side for one.
SIX! Over the fielder! Short ball and Rahul pulls it. He does not middle it though. The ball goes to deep square leg. The fielder leaps up but the ball goes just over him.
FOUR! Through the gap! Full ball, on off. Rahul drives it through the gap at covers for a boundary.
Short ball, on off. Rahul goes for the pull but gets the top edge. The ball goes over mid on. The fielder chases it, dives and keeps it to two.
Brad Wheal to bowl his second over.
Short ball, outside off. Sharma reaches out for it but gets no bat on it. Not called a wide.
FOUR! Way too easy for Rohit Sharma! Full ball, on the pads. He flicks it to the mid-wicket fence. 50 up for India now.
Length ball, on off. Cut away to point. The man dives and stops it.
FOUR! Carved away! Full ball, outside off. Rohit Sharma nicely carves it over cover for another boundary. India are racing away towards the target.
Length ball, on off. Pushed to mid off.
SIX! BOOM! There it goes! Length ball, on off. Rohit Sharma gets in position and heaves it way, way over the mid-wicket fence.
Safyaan Sharif is into the attack now.
A single to end yet another good over for India! Rohit comes down the track but the bowler slows the pace. Rohit is a touch early in the drive, it goes off the inner half towards mid on for one.
FOUR! Once again a little too full and he goes for a boundary. Fuller and on off, Sharma at the end, just opens the face of the bat and manages to lift it over extra cover. Boundary.
A slower delivery outside off, Rohit looks to cut but misses. A rare dot.
Better! Good length and on off, gets it to jag back in a little. Rahul drops it towards cover for one.
SIX! Into the crowd! The Scotland pacers are clueless as to where to bowl to Rahul! He went outside off on the last ball and got hit over covers, this time he looks to tuck him up and bowl it on the body. Rahul whips it over the square leg fence for a biggie. India well on course to chase it down within 7 overs.
FOUR! That is a hit-me ball! With no protection on the off side, he goes full and outside off. Rahul lofts it over covers for a boundary.
Change. Alasdair Evans is into the attack.
Fuller and on off, Rahul drives it crisply but a little too close to mid off. Only one. End of a big over for India. 63 in 31 if they are to better Afghanistan's NRR.
FOUR! Does find the boundary this time! On the leg side through, third in the over! Angled into the pads, Rahul waits a little and then whips it behind square on the leg side.
The idea was right but the execution was not there! Shorter and outside off, Rahul looks to guide it past short third man. He fails to get it past that fielder. A little to the left or the right and would have been a boundary.
WIDE! Slips this one down the leg side. Rahul looks to flick but misses. Wided.
FOUR! Not sure it was where Rahul wanted it to go but it is the result he desired. Angled into the pads, Rahul is early in the flick, it goes more off the toe-end through mid-wicket. Boundary.
FOUR! That is glorious! So nonchalant! He hits his first boundary! Trademark Rahul! Fuller and on middle, angling into the batter. Rahul shows the maker's name as he lofts it with a straight bat and over mid on for a boundary.
Into the pads, Sharma works it through square leg. One taken.
Who will bowl from the other end? It is Brad Wheal.
A single to end! Angled into the pads, it is worked through square leg for one.
FOUR! Up and over! No one in the deep there and Rohit bags his and India's first boundary! Rohit gives himself room. Watt bowls it fuller and outside off, it is lofted over covers for a boundary.
Watt goes really wide of the crease and angles it into the pads, this is worked through square leg for one.
Rohit is off the mark! This is angled into the middle pole, it is worked through mid-wicket for one.
Catch it is the shout but it lands well short. Watt is getting to shape the ball away here. Fuller and outside off, Rohit plays it uppishly but well short of cover-point.
India and Rahul are underway! Fuller and on middle, Rahul works it through mid-wicket for one.
We are back for the chase! KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma stride out to bat. Scotland are already on the field. Mark Watt to start with the ball.
... THE RUN CHASE ...
Now India need to chase this down in 7.1 overs if they are to have a better NRR than Afghanistan after this game. There is no doubt, the openers are going to come all guns blazing. It is just a matter of how many overs are India going to take! Scotland, don't see any miracle from them, all they can do is delay the victory for India. The second essay in a bit.
Ravindra Jadeja is up for a chat. He says that they played really well and they planned to get them out as soon as possible. He was trying to bowl in good overs. Says that they were hoping to win the toss and it worked as planned.
Really can't write a lot about a team that has been bowled out for 85. 7 single-digit scores and no batter managed to cross the 30-run mark. Another poor display with the bat for Scotland, not a tournament to remember for their batters so far. India were brilliant though. They did not put a foot down here. All the bowlers except for Varun Chakravarthy took a wicket with Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja taking 3 each.
What an impressive bowling performance by India! Absolutely brilliant! It was the batters who lit the stadium up with their flashy stroke-making in the last game and now it is their bowlers who have given India an opportunity for a big win again.
OUT! BOWLED! There comes the last wicket! Watt shuffles to the off side but Bumrah fires a yorker at the base of the stumps. Watt looks to scoop but is beaten and the ball hits the stumps. Scotland are bowled out for 85!
Yorker, on off. Wheal flicks it away to the leg side for one.
Fuller ball, outside off. Wheal looks to block but gets no bat on it.
Full ball, on off. Pushed to long on for one.
Jasprit Bumrah to end his spell here.
Short of a length, outside off. Wheal looks to cut but gets the inside edge. The ball hits the deck and goes back towards the keeper. What an over that was! 2 runs and 3 wickets from it.
A wide yorker, outside off. Watt carves it to deep cover for one.
A full one, on off. Pushed to mid off.
Brad Wheal is the last batter.
OUT! KABOOM! Yet another corker of a yorker and it is way too good for Evans who is a number 10 batter. A team hat-trick then for India! This is a toe-crusher. Evans is late in getting his bat down. It hits the toe and then deflects onto the stumps. Can the innings end in this over itself?
Alasdair Evans walks out to bat.
OUT! RUN OUT! Two in two for India! Safyaan Sharif was probably worried about the LBW appeal! This is full again and on the pads. Sharif looks to flick but misses. It hits the pad. A huge appeal but turned down. The ball rolls towards mid-wicket. Sharif takes off and he is ball watching. His partner is not interested at all. Sharif is halfway down. Kishan picks the ball up and calmly runs towards the stumps at the keeper's end and whips the bails off.
Safyaan Sharif walks out to bat.
OUT! TIMBER! Calum MacLeod is out of here and Shami gets his second with a corker of a yorker. Scotland would have loved for Calum MacLeod to hang in there till the end. He is arguably their last recognized batter. Full and on off. MacLeod looks to whip it across the line but misses. The ball hits the off pole.
Change in bowling. Mohammed Shami (2-1-13-1) is back on.
A single to end! An expensive last from Ashwin. A full toss on middle, this is swept through square leg for one.
A change goes begging! Pant was way too eager to whip the bails off there. Clever from Ashwin. He sees Watt come down the track and fires it quicker and outside off. Watt reaches out but misses. Pant fails to collect the ball cleanly. It goes towards the off side for a bye. Also, it has been signaled as a wide. Pant probably took his eyes off the ball towards the end.
Just over! Two more! The reverse sweep comes out. Ashwin tosses it up around off. It goes off the top edge but over short third man for two.
Clever! Slows it up, enticing the batter to go big. Watt though defends it to covers.
The sweep comes out. It is played through square leg for another single.
Really hit well but only for one. Watt again steps out and hits it hard towards long off. Jadeja gets to the ball quickly and keeps it down to one.
EDGY FOUR! Scotland won't mind how they come as long as they do. Watt comes down the track and Ashwin fires it outside off. Watt reaches out for it, it goes off the outside edge down to third man for a boundary.
Watt now skips down the track and Jadeja shortens the length. He swings but it goes more off the inner half through mid-wicket for one.
Flatter and on middle, Watt works it to mid-wicket.
FOUR! Not a good effort in the field there! Short and outside off, Watt hangs back and slaps it through covers. This one is racing away from Shami. He makes good ground to his left, does get there, gets down to pick it up but fails to do so. Welcome boundary.
That is outstanding from Jadeja! Watt comes down the track, he shortens the length. It is pushed to the right of the bowler. It is almost passed him but Jadeja dives and stops a run.
Fires it on off, defended nicely.
Flatter and outside off, Calum MacLeod plays it through covers for one.
Ravindra Jadeja (3-0-9-3) is back on.
Lovely delivery! Tosses it up, gets it to drift back in from outside off. Watt looks to defend but it goes off the inner half on the leg side.
On middle, Calum MacLeod pushes it down to long on for one.
OUT! TAKEN! Greaves's struggle ends! He played just the 7 balls but tried far too many shots in those 7 and now falls. Steps out but does not get to the pitch of it. It seems like yet another carrom ball by Ashwin. Lands on off and then holds its line. Greaves looks to go big but this goes more off the outer part of the bat and down towards long off. Pandya makes no mistake. 100 looks far away now.
Who will bat now? Mark Watt walks out to bat.
WIDE! Ashwin probably though Greaves would make room again. He bowls it down the leg side. Greaves holds his ground and leaves it alone. Wided.
Greaves makes room and Ashwin follows him. He looks to cut but gets an underedge back to the bowler.
Review time. India have reviewed this for LBW. No bat on it. But it is too high and the ball is going over the stumps. Rishabh Pant had said that height could be an issue but Virat Kohli decided to take the review at the last moment.
NOT OUT! That is just going over! India lose a review! Pant did mention it seems high but Virat still went for it. Can't blame him, it did seem close. On middle, it seems like the carom ball. Greaves misses his reverse sweep and gets hit high on the body. An appeal but turned down. A discussion between Pant, Ashwin and Kohli and the skipper takes the review in the end. Replays roll in and they show it is going over.
A little too short, this is pushed through covers for one.
A dot to end then! A yorker on middle, Greaves jams it back towards mid off. A superb over then by Bumrah.
Excellent change in length! Caught the batter by surprise! Shorter and on the body. Greaves looks to pull but misses.
A slower yorker, it dips on the batter. Greaves plays it back to the bowler.
