PITCH REPORT - Athar Ali Khan is inspecting the conditions in Sylhet. He says the surface has been good throughout and should hold up well into this final session. The big question, he notes, is whether Pakistan can create history. Says a chase of this magnitude has never been achieved at this ground, and this is the highest target Pakistan have ever been set here. On Bangladesh's bowling strategy, he points to the final two overs before the break as a masterclass in length control. Of the 12 deliveries bowled, he details, nine or ten hit the perfect good-length mark, completely shutting down the scoring options. That, he says, is brilliant Test match bowling, and exactly the discipline Bangladesh will be looking to replicate from here. Adds that for Pakistan, all eyes are on Babar Azam. He points that it has been 31 innings without a Test century for him, which means the pressure is firmly on him, yet his class is beyond question. Further adds that as he gets his eye in, he has every ability to master this surface and post a big one, much as Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das did earlier in the match. Adds that a chase of this magnitude demands someone to stand up and anchor the innings, someone cut from the cloth of a Younis Khan or a Mohammad Yousuf. Ends by saying whether Pakistan have that steel in them today remains to be seen.

Pakistan's star batter - Babar Azam, on the mood in the dressing room, says the feeling is good, and the focus is simply on doing their best. He acknowledges that the target is big, but two full days remain to chase it down. On the approach, he says big partnerships are the key. Adds that the openers need to lay the foundation and the batters coming in after must build on it. On his form, he says he has always been confident, and runs in the middle only add to that. He is happy with how he is batting. On the pitch, he feels it is still pretty good. Details that there is a little spin, but on the whole, it is a nice surface to bat on.

A word from the coach - Phil Simmons, the Head Coach of Bangladesh, on being asked whether on the previous day, Day 3, they were in any mood to declare innings, smiles and replies that he or his skipper had no intention to declare the innings. Adds that they had it planned that they are going to bat as much as they can. On the pitch, he calls it a really good surface, pointing to the Zimbabwe match at the same venue, where it stayed even throughout. He stresses that bowlers still have to work hard and hit the right areas because it is fundamentally a good batting wicket, and yesterday proved that batters who apply themselves can score freely here. On the dressing room mood, he says confidence is naturally high right now. Mentions that wins breed confidence, and when players are scoring hundreds, it rises even further. Says these are exactly the things the team has been working towards, and they are now starting to arrive consistently.

About the pitch - Ahead of Day 3, Mahmudul Hasan Joy had mentioned in a pre-match interview that the ball was coming nicely onto the bat during his stint, making him feel comfortable at the crease. Now, looking at Bangladesh's batting performance on Day 3 can only reinforce the assessment that there are no demons on this pitch. However, with the new ball in hand and two inexperienced young openers at the crease, the hosts possess more than enough firepower to make early inroads. Stay tuned as the fourth day begins shortly.

Patience the key for Pakistan - A fifth day is not out of the question! Why? Because once a batter gets settled on this surface, it will become increasingly difficult to dislodge them, at least the Bangladeshi batters have displayed that resilience. Pakistan will need tremendous heart, patience, and composure to mount any kind of realistic challenge. And the likes of Babar and Rizwan will have to bat their hearts out. Bangladesh, however, will arrive this morning with the scent of history in the air. With their bowlers well rested, their confidence sky high, and an entire nation watching, the Tigers will be eager to wrap things up swiftly and assert their dominance on home turf without question.

Pakistan face a mountain - Khurram Shahzad was Pakistan's standout performer with four wickets, and the visitors managed to negotiate two overs under fading light before the umpires called stumps. Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal, the opening pair, walked off unbeaten but also without opening their account, already staring down the enormity of what lies ahead. Pakistan have a herculean task ahead, and they will have to contend with hostile spells from the pace trio of Bangladesh, as well as the relentless spin of Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz on a Sylhet surface that is deteriorating by the hour.

Day 3 was an absolute masterclass for Bangladesh, who were utterly dominant with the bat. The Moving Day belonged emphatically to the Tigers, headlined by Mushfiqur Rahim's magnificent 137 off 233 balls, they stretched their second-innings total to 390 and set Pakistan a mountainous target of 437 runs to win. Half-centuries from Litton Das and Mahmudul Hasan Joy further underlined Bangladesh's commanding display, as session after session slipped away from the Pakistan bowling attack that fought hard but simply could not turn the tide.

All to play for on Day 4 - Day 3, which is generally known as the moving day in Test cricket, has flown by and at the end of it, Bangladesh are well ahead in the game. Even the two overs they bowled late in the day almost turned out to be fruitful as Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam had the Pakistan openers chasing for the ball. Pakistan will be pleased to get out of Day 3 unscathed and will look to put on a sturdy batting display, and truth be told, the pitch doesn't seem to have any demons on it, and if the visitors can make the most of the first two sessions on Day 4, we could be in for a exciting run chase. A tale of two teams - Bangladesh have had the upper hand with the ball, given their well-rounded bowling attack, but they have put on a fine display with the bat as well in their second innings. Scoring 390 runs in the third innings of the Test match, when neither of the first two innings saw a score of above 300 runs, is pretty solid. Pakistan, on the other hand, made changes to their bowling attack for this game and it hasn't quite worked out as intended. Their batting is already pretty inexperienced, and they will be hoping that at least one of their young opening batters goes on to score big in the fourth innings.

The hosts in a promising position - Bangladesh are in prime position to sweep the two-match Test series, and Pakistan have it all to do on Day 4 and maybe even on Day 5. Still, 437 runs needed for the win, and the visitors have all 10 wickets in hand. All in all, Day 3 also belonged to Bangladesh and they will be hoping to make quick inroads with the ball on Day 4.

There's a discussion going on between the two umpires. The artificial lights have been on for a bit, and now it seems like the umpires are calling the players off. Bad Light stops play and a reading is taken. Najmul Hossain Shanto was about to introduce Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the off-spinner, due to the fading light, but it has now been confirmed that it is STUMPS on DAY 3.
