NEW DELHI: BJP's Subrata Thakur won against TMC's Narottam Biswas from Gaighata.Gaighata is a Scheduled Caste-reserved constituency in the Bangaon subdivision of North 24 Parganas district. Predominantly rural, the seat has seen a gradual shift from Congress-Left dominance to a direct TMC-BJP contest in recent cycles. In 2026, TMC's Narottam Biswas takes on sitting BJP MLA Subrata Thakur.In 2021, BJP's Subrata Thakur won with 1,00,808 votes, defeating TMC's Narottam Biswas by 9,578 votes. In 2016, TMC's Pulin Bihari Ray held the seat with 93,812 votes, beating the CPI candidate by 29,572 votes. In 2011, TMC's Manjul Krishna Thakur won with 91,487 votes. The 2026 contest is a direct rematch between Biswas and Thakur, and TMC will be eager to reverse the 2021 outcome in what has historically been a constituency receptive to different political winds.
