Murshidabad election results 2026: BJP's Gouri Sankar Ghosh defeats TMC's Shaoni Singha Roy

In West Bengal's Murshidabad, Bharatiya Janata Party's Gouri Shankar Ghosh secured his won getting 1,14,443 votes. All India Trinamool Congress' Shaoni Singha Roy trailed behind with 82,922 votes.TMC's Shaoni Singha Roy is in contest with BJP's Gouri Sankar Ghosh for the constituency of Murshidabad in the 2026 assembly elections.There were a total of 2,48,269 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2026 Assembly election in Murshidabad Assembly constituency, of whom 1,26,372 were male, 1,21,896 female and 1 belonged to the third gender.West Bengal voted across 294 seats in two phases on April 23 and April 29, recording a combined turnout of nearly 93 per cent — the highest since Independence and one of the largest in Indian electoral history. Notably, the surge was not limited to rural strongholds but saw a dramatic rise in urban centres, with women voters outpacing men to drive the record participation.Murshidabad is one of the 294 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal, located in Murshidabad district and forming part of the Murshidabad Lok Sabha seat. A general category constituency, it has witnessed closely contested elections and shifts in party control in recent years.In the 2021 Assembly elections, Murshidabad had 268,221 registered electors, of whom 229,231 cast valid votes. The seat was won by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Gouri Sankar Ghosh, who secured 95,967 votes. Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Shaoni Singha Roy finished a close second with 93,476 votes, trailing by a narrow margin of 2,491 votes.In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had an electorate of 235,052, with 201,150 valid votes recorded, reflecting a turnout of 85.58 per cent. Indian National Congress candidate Shaoni Singha Roy won the seat with 94,579 votes. TMC candidate Ashim Krishna Bhatta came second with 69,440 votes, losing by a margin of 25,139 votes.
