MADURAI: Police have registered a case against AIADMK functionaries on charges of involving minors in election campaigning near Thirumangalam in Madurai district.According to police, the incident came to light when party workers were reportedly seen using children for distribution of pamphlets and participation in a street-level campaign. Acting on the directives of the election officials, police conducted an inquiry, which confirmed the presence of minors in a political event.Consequently, on Monday, the Checkanurani police registered a case against AIADMK functionaries under sections of the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, and under sections of BNS.Earlier on Friday, three TVK functionaries were booked for violation of the model code of conduct by engaging children in their election campaign in Sumaithangi village in Ramanathapuram district.
