12 injured as private bus overturns in Anakapalle district

Visakhapatnam: More than 12 passengers suffered injuries, ranging from fractures to head injuries, when a private AC bus in which they were travelling overturned near Nakkapalle Junction on the NH-16 stretch in Anakapalle district in the early hours of Sunday.The police said the road accident took place around 3.30 am on Sunday (April 19) as the driver lost control of the vehicle, allegedly due to overspeeding and drowsiness, leading to the accident. The bus was carrying about 38 passengers, and it was travelling from Bhubaneswar to Chennai when it overturned by the roadside.According to information from local sources, the Nakkapalle police, along with fire service personnel and medical staff, quickly arrived at the scene to commence rescue operations. They transported the injured individuals to the government hospital in Nakkapalle. The police reported that most of the injured victims were from various regions of Odisha, and all of their conditions were described as stable.The police cleared the overturned bus and regulated the traffic on the busy stretch. We are recording statements of the injured passengers and conducting a technical inspection of the vehicle. We are also examining the driver's conduct, vehicle condition and road geometry as part of the investigation, the police added.
