Thiruvananthapuram: Kallambalam police arrested four men with 4.79g of MDMA during a late-night anti-narcotics operation on Saturday. The raid was conducted along with district anti-narcotic special action force (Dansaf) as part of Operation Toofan.The arrested were Niyaz, Ashiq, Nadayara and Akhil, all natives of Cherunniyoor in Varkala.Police said the accused were intercepted while travelling in a car on Kallambalam-Varkala Road around 9.15pm. The operation was carried out on the instructions of the district rural police chief based on confidential information received by Dansaf.According to police, the accused attempted to evade arrest after spotting the team. They allegedly tried to hit a police team that arrived on a motorcycle with their car. Two of the accused then attempted to flee on foot but were chased and apprehended by officers.Preliminary interrogation revealed that MDMA was procured from Bengaluru and was allegedly intended for distribution among school and college students in the district.The accused were later produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.
