Making reels at airports can now ground you, DGCA may include in No-Fly list

Nagpur: Shooting reels, vlogs or any social media content at airports could now cost you your right to fly. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued strict guidelines prohibiting unauthorised photography and videography in sensitive areas of airports across the country, including Nagpur.The restrictions aim to prevent the accidental recording and circulation of sensitive operational information. Under the new rules, passengers and visitors are barred from filming or photographing security checkpoints, boarding gates, runway buses, aprons, aircraft handling zones, and other restricted operational areas without prior authorisation. Offenders may face financial penalties and, in serious cases, have their names recommended for inclusion in the DGCA's No-Fly List, resulting in a temporary or permanent ban on air travel, depending on the severity of the violation. Authorities may also confiscate mobile phones, cameras, or other recording devices for investigation. Airport officials say the move comes in response to a rise in passengers creating social media content while travelling. In several instances, videos uploaded online have inadvertently captured security arrangements, surveillance systems and staff operations, which could compromise airport security even when the content appears innocuous. Security personnel have been empowered to act immediately against violators. In minor cases, passengers may be directed to delete the material on the spot; repeated violations or incidents involving sensitive security content will attract stricter action. Passengers are advised to remain mindful of the regulations at all times. Photography may still be permitted in designated public areas, but travellers must follow all instructions issued by airport staff and security agencies.Prior Permission Required for Commercial Filming Individuals or organisations wishing to film within airport premises for advertisements, feature films, documentaries, or commercial social media content must obtain formal prior permission from airport management and the relevant security agencies before any filming begins. No exemption will apply without all requisite approvals in place.
