Maharashtra likely to witness more downpour, IMD issues high alert for next four days

Amid heavy rains in various parts of the state, Maharashtra government has asked officials to remain vigilant and take steps to avoid loss of lives in the metropolis and other rain-affected areas. The IMD has issued orange alert for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar for the next four days. Whereas, red alert has been issued for Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Satara and Kolhapur region.

Malaria cases up; break in rain could worsen woes
With rains lashing across Mumbai, the deluge of diseases such as dengue and malaria has begun, said BMC officials on Tuesday. According to the latest monsoon diseases update, the first three days of July have seen 49 cases of gastroenteritis, 39 cases of malaria and seven cases of dengue.The update said dengue cases were increasing in Ward E(Reay Road and Madanpura areas) and Ward H East (areas such as Indira Nagar, Gaondevi and Vakola pipeline).

Mumbai: Man who abused cop for waking him gets 1.7 year jail

A 27-year-old labourer who abused a police constable when woken up at a CSMT platform was convicted and sentenced to one year seven months' imprisonment Monday. Rameshwar Rathod refused to leave the platform when told to and instead, abused the cops and said, "Does this platform belong to your father... I will sleep here if I want to... do whatever you want."
