Bijnor: A man and his mother were arrested in connection with the alleged dowry death of his wife in the Naugawa Sadat area of Amroha district, police said.
The accused, Sahil and his mother Afsana, had been absconding since the registration of the case. Police said raids are underway to trace the two remaining accused, said circle officer Awadhbhan Singh.
The case pertains to the death of Gulsitab, 27, a resident of Ismailpur village in Bijnor district, who married Sahil on Feb 1 last year. She died under suspicious circumstances on Sunday at her home in Bilna village under Naugawa Sadat police limits.
After receiving information about her death, family members reached the village and staged a protest, alleging that she was being harassed for dowry.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s brother, police registered a case against husband Sahil, mother-in-law Afsana, brother-in-law
Abdullah, and a relative identified as Afsar under sections 85 and 80(2) of the BNS and sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act.
The body was sent for postmortem.
