Amroha: A court here has sentenced three men to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹64,000 on each convict for killing a truck driver from Haryana and stealing his belongings in 2020. Two other men were awarded three years in jail for purchasing the stolen items.
Additional district government counsel (ADGC) Ravindra Garg said the case dates back to July 31, 2020, when
Sanjay Singh, 40, a truck driver from Rohtak, Haryana, went missing while transporting goods to Hardoi. His truck was later found abandoned near a factory in Gajraula town of Amroha district.
Police traced call detail records and detained Suraj Rawat, Ajay Gupta, and Pradeep Rawat—all residents of Gajraula—on Aug 9, 2020. During interrogation, the accused confessed to the murder. Sanjay’s body was subsequently fished out from a pond.
Investigators noted that his hands and legs were tied and his eyes were blindfolded and a cloth strip was tied around his neck. Autopsy report confirmed death due to strangulation.
Investigators found that the accused had stolen Sanjay’s mobile phone, cash, truck wheels and other belongings, which were later sold to
Rizwan and Sabir. A case was registered against the accused under IPC sections 302 (murder), 201 (destruction of evidence), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 404 (dishonest misappropriation of property), and 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property).
After examining the evidence and witness testimonies, additional district and sessions judge Naseema Khanam pronounced all five accused guilty on Wednesday.
