Woman kills self after murdering five-year-old daughter

Madurai: A woman killed her five-year-old daughter and then took her life after a fight with her mother in Madurai during the late hours of Tuesday.Police said that Muthu, 25, was married to Sundarapandi, and the couple had two children, Thulasi, 5, and a four-year-old boy. They were residing in Aruldosspuram.Muthu went to her mother’s house in Jeeva Street of Bethaniyapuram during the holidays.On Tuesday a verbal altercation broke out between Muthu and her mother Sumathi, in which she scolded Muthu for sitting idle without doing any household work. Embittered over this, Muthu killed her daughter Thulasi by strangling her, and then died by suicide by strangling herself with a nylon rope .Police recovered the bodies, and sent them to Govt Rajaji Hospital for autopsy.Based on the complaint from Sumathi, Karimedu police registered a case under the relevant section of BNS and are investigating further.(Assistance for those having suicidal thoughts is available on TN’s health helpline 104 and Sneha’s suicide prevention helpline 044-24640050)
