Thiruparankundram case: Contempt case adjourned to April 9
Madurai: A day after a division bench of the Madurai bench of Madras high court stayed a single judge order in the contempt of court proceedings against the district officials in the Thiruparankundram case, the single judge said they authorities took adjournment saying they would consider his suggestion, but went on appeal and obtained a stay order.Justice G R Swaminathan then remarked, "all is fair not only in love and war but also litigation."When the contempt case was taken up on Wednesday, a senior counsel representing the authorities submitted that on March 17, a division bench had granted interim stay on the contempt proceedings and posted the matter for hearing on April 8.Justice Swaminathan observed that since the month of Karthigai had elapsed, he suggested to the authorities that they could show symbolic respect to the court's order and still work out their legal remedies. This option was given to give a quietus. "It is relevant to note that in contempt proceedings, the court has a duty to issue appropriate directions for remedying or rectifying the things done in violation of the court's order and in that regard, the court may even take restitutive measures at any stage of the proceedings," he said, adding that it was in that spirit, he had given a certain suggestion.He then adjourned the hearing to April 9, pointing out that the division bench is seized of the matter and interim stay has been granted till April 8.
