Cleared/215 WordsMadurai: Madurai corporation commissioner Gaurav Kumar assessed the newly commissioned four MLD sewage treatment plant set up near Mattuthavani under the Infrastructure and Amenities Fund (I & A Fund 2022–2023), with an estimated project cost of Rs6 crore on Wednesday. He also visited the kitchen unit near the Mattuthavani fish market where meals are cooked for corporation sanitation workers.Later, the commissioner reviewed the renovation work currently in progress at the Mattuthavani MGR bus stand, being executed at an estimated cost of Rs15.5 crore, covering footpaths, bus bays, toilet blocks, drinking water provisions, and lighting facilities. He directed officials to accelerate the pace of the work and to make sure that public toilets within the bus stand area are maintained in a clean and hygienic condition at all times.Additionally, a new onion market comprising 75 shops is being established near Mattuthavani at an estimated cost of Rs10.3 crore. In the first phase, 42 shops have been completed. The commissioner inspected the shops as well as the construction progress of the remaining units.He also undertook a field check to confirm whether the entry fee set by the corporation was being collected from vehicles entering the wholesale vegetable and fruit markets near Mattuthavani, and whether appropriate receipts were being issued for these payments.
