Madurai: AIADMK candidate for Madurai East, Mangulam K Mahendran, has levelled allegations against sitting minister and DMK candidate for the same constituency, P Moorthy, accusing him of intimidating AIADMK workers and relying solely on money power to win the election.
Mahendran conducted a door-to-door campaign on Tuesday in the Iyer Bungalow and Narayanapuram areas.
Addressing reporters, Mahendran said that there were reports of Moorthy intimidating AIADMK party workers by instructing them not to campaign in certain areas. However, he added that party members were defying these threats and continuing their work.
Expressing confidence in the electorate, the AIADMK candidate said that the people would usher in a silent revolution to elect him, and vowed to prove his strength by winning the seat despite the alleged intimidation tactics.
He further stated that, if elected as an MLA, he would prioritise legal action in connection with the 200 crore tax scam allegations in the Madurai corporation.
Mahendran also claimed that Moorthy was unable to face questions raised by voters in the constituency.
