Kochi: The state govt is fully committed to implementing visionary development projects that will revitalize Kerala’s economy and elevate the living standards of its citizens, chief minister V D Satheesan said on Sunday. Speaking at a grand civic reception at Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Kochi, Satheesan outlined the UDF administration’s progressive blueprint for the state’s future.Acknowledging the severe fiscal hurdles ahead, he noted that his decision to personally take charge of the finance ministry was driven by a desire to confront this economic challenge head-on. “The state treasury belongs entirely to the public, and the wealth generated through state-led initiatives will be equitably and transparently distributed across all segments of society,” he said.A major goal of the govt’s economic roadmap includes transforming Kerala into a premier global logistics axis by developing world-class port and aviation hubs. The upcoming state budget will feature landmark allocations specifically targeting the health, education and basic infrastructure sectors. On the historic cabinet decision to establish India’s first-ever dedicated department for senior citizens, Satheesan noted that a truly civilized society is judged by how responsibly it cares for its elderly population. The CM promised active interventions to arrest the ongoing ‘brain drain’ of Kerala’s youth migrating overseas for education and employment. The govt will establish globally competitive educational ecosystems and robust entrepreneurial support networks in the state to empower the younger generation to innovate and thrive locally, he said.Reiterating his administration’s unwavering stance on secularism, he defined Kerala’s socio-cultural fabric not as a Western-style rejection of faith but as an inclusive philosophy where all religions are embraced. He made it clear that there would be zero tolerance towards communalism.Satheesan also unveiled an ambitious urban development strategy for Kochi, aiming to expand its current borders through advanced urban planning. The structural revamp will modernize the city and directly uplift adjacent rural villages. He revealed a targeted six-month deadline to draft a comprehensive master plan designed to position Ernakulam as the absolute hub of the Malayalam film industry, similar to Hyderabad and Chennai, while simultaneously unlocking the potential of the tourism sector. The event was presided over by Ernakulam district collector G Priyanka, with actor Mammootty attending as the chief guest. Ministers Anoop Jacob, Roji M John and V E Abdul Gafoor alongside MPs, MLAs and cultural leaders were also present.Meanwhile, actor Mohanlal attended the grand reception hosted for Satheesan in his home constituency of Paravur later in the day.
