Jaipur police bust fake E-Mitra ID fraud call centre, 9 held

Jaipur: The Jaipur Police Commissionerate Tuesday busted a fake call centre operating from Jagatpura that allegedly duped people on the pretext of providing E-Mitra retailer IDs. Nine persons, including four men and five women, were arrested, while a juvenile was detained and sent to a child observation home.Police suspect confidential data of applicants seeking E-Mitra retailer IDs may have been leaked or illegally accessed from the Department of Information Technology (DoIT). Officials said a detailed probe would begin after the arrest of the alleged mastermind, who is absconding.The operation was jointly carried out by the commissionerate special team, Ramnagariya police and cyber police. During the raid, police seized eight laptops, nine mobile phones, six laptop chargers and a vehicle allegedly used in the fraud.Special commissioner of police Om Prakash said the racket was being operated from ABS Plaza near the 7 Number Bus Stand in Jagatpura.“We received intelligence inputs Monday about a cyber fraud module functioning in the name of issuing E-Mitra retailer IDs. During the raid, five men and five women were found making calls using laptops and mobile phones,” he said.Police said the accused allegedly created a fake online portal and lured applicants seeking E-Mitra retailerships. Victims were allegedly asked to transfer money through QR codes and UPI payments, but the IDs issued reportedly failed to provide genuine E-Mitra services.Investigators said the gang allegedly charged between Rs 5,000 and Rs 40,000 from each applicant. Police added that the accused specifically targeted genuine applicants, strengthening suspicions of an illegal data leak.The arrested accused were identified as Ajay Singh, Indrajeet Singh, Shubham Yogi, Dilkhush Gurjar, Sonia Dwivedi, Neha Singh, Kanchan Mahawar, Ritu Singh and Shalu Rawat. The four male accused were remanded to police custody till May 29, while the five women accused were sent to judicial custody.
