Hyderabad: BJP Telangana president N Ramchander Rao on Wednesday said that Telangana received more than Rs 1 lakh crore in grants-in-aid from the Centre between 2014 and 2024. He asserted that the Narendra Modi-led Union govt had extended substantial financial assistance and development support to the state without any discrimination.Addressing a press conference on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 12 years in office, Rao said, “Despite the BJP not being in power in Telangana, the Centre has ensured continuous support through investments, welfare programmes and infrastructure projects.” He claimed that the Centre had significantly enhanced fiscal transfers to states after Narendra Modi became Prime Minister. He noted that the share of central taxes devolved to states was increased from 32% during the UPA tenure to 42% following the recommendations of the 14th Finance Commission. After the reorganisation of Jammu & Kashmir, the share currently stands at 41%.Rao said that when finance commission grants and allocations to local bodies are included, nearly 49% of the Centre’s resources are transferred to states, making it the highest-ever resource devolution in the country’s history. Highlighting investments in Telangana, he said the state’s allocation under the special assistance for capital investment scheme increased nearly tenfold, from Rs 358 crore in 2020-21 to Rs 4,209 crore in 2025-26.
He also pointed to a sharp rise in railway funding, stating that allocations for Telangana increased from Rs 258 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 5,336 crore in 2024-25. He cited the operation of Vande Bharat trains connecting Secunderabad with Visakhapatnam and Tirupati, and Hyderabad with Bengaluru, besides ongoing railway doubling, new line construction and the complete electrification of railway routes in the state. He said the Centre had prioritised Telangana under major infrastructure initiatives, including the Hyderabad-Bengaluru, Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam and Surat-Chennai economic corridors. He also highlighted projects such as AIIMS Bibinagar, NIPER’s Centre of Excellence, new Navodaya Vidyalayas and enhanced airport connectivity under the UDAN scheme. Listing welfare achievements, he said Telangana has 1.32 crore Jan Dhan accounts, 7.61 lakh beneficiaries under PM SVANidhi, 53.9 lakh rural households with tap water connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission and 30.4 lakh farmers covered under the PM-Kisan scheme.
