Hyderabad: A 23-year-old man was arrested within hours after allegedly attacking a woman shopkeeper and snatching her gold chain in Kompally on Sunday evening. The incident occurred around 6 pm at Jayabheri Park under the limits of Pet Basheerabad police station. According to police, the victim, Bijjam Malleswari (40), who runs an oil store, was alone in the shop when the accused entered, threw oil bottles at her, assaulted her, and snatched her gold chain before fleeing.
Local residents chased and caught the accused in the locality before handing him over to the police. The accused was identified as Malladi Narasimha alias Nani, a native of East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh, who was staying at a boys’ hostel in Ameerpet. Police said he had recently quit his job and had allegedly turned to chain snatching for easy money.
Police recovered the stolen gold chain weighing about 30.4 grams from his possession. Police registered a case under Section 309(6) of the BNS and produced him before the court. Cyberabad police appreciated the role of the public in helping nab the accused immediately after the offence and urged citizens to report suspicious activity through Dial-100.
