Davangere: Thieves broke into a locked house in Amaravati Colony, Harihar, in Davangere district and stole 483g of gold jewellery and cash while the family was away attending a wedding. The theft took place at the house of businessman Parikshit C Naidu, a resident of D Block, Amaravati Colony, who had gone to attend a relative’s wedding in Gokarna.The family left for the event on Monday, and the theft occurred the same night. The incident came to light the next morning, when the housemaid arrived. The maid noticed the main door lock was broken and informed the owners. After learning about the incident, the owners returned and lodged a complaint at Harihar Rural police station.According to the complaint, the thieves stole a long chain, a bent ring, a disco chain, bracelets and bangles totalling 483g gold jewellery, along with Rs 10,000 in cash.Police said the estimated current market value of the stolen jewellery was Rs 67.6 lakh, and added that the thieves took only the larger jewellery pieces and left behind the smaller ones. Police visited the crime scene along with a canine squad and fingerprint experts, and are working to apprehend the suspects.
