Kalaburagi: The identity of the deceased woman, whose half-burnt body was found on the side of the highway near Kalamuda village of Kamalapur taluk on Kalaburagi-Bidar on Saturday, has been ascertained.The victim is Jyoti Chandrasekhara Kapale, 57, a resident of Anandnagar near SB College in Kalaburagi city, and worked as a teacher at Govt Higher Primary School in Vanjarakhed village of Bhalki taluk in Bidar district.It is said that Jyoti, who was unmarried, lived in a rented house in Basavakalyan, and used to visit Kalaburagi during holidays. She attended school on April 2 and returned to her house in Kalaburagi on April 3 as it was a holiday (Good Friday). She left her home the same day, but did not return.A body was found on the roadside, about 1km from Kalamuda. SP Addur Srinivasalu, additional SP Mahesh Meghannavar, DSP N Lokesh, CPI Shivshankar Sahu and other officials inspected the spot.SP Adduru Srinivasalu said initially, the age of the deceased was estimated to be between 22 and 25 years, but later it turned out to be 57. Chilli powder was found near the body, with face bearing injury marks. He said: "We suspect the woman may have been murdered with a sharp weapon after throwing chilli powder on her face. We are investigating the case."Kamalapur police have registered a case.
