Haveri: Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot called on students to contribute to realising the dream of a self-reliant India by using the knowledge and skills acquired through education.
He was speaking while presiding over the first convocation of Haveri University at KLE's Gudleppa Hallikeri College in Haveri on Monday. He said that while receiving a degree, students should not only accept a certificate but also the responsibility to make a positive contribution to society. "Obtaining a degree is not the end of student life but the beginning of a new chapter. The first convocation of Haveri University holds significant importance. Along with awarding degrees to students, we are witnessing the fulfilment of a long-standing dream of the people in this region," he said.
Governor Gehlot advised students not to get caught up in the pursuit of jobs but to think about creating self-employment opportunities. "Learning never ends and is intertwined with life. Today, AI, data science and the digital revolution have changed the very nature of life. Therefore, students should always be open to new technologies," he said.
Justice Ashok B Hinchageri, president of the Karnataka Law Commission and retired judge of the Karnataka high court, said in his convocation address that the convocation was not just a ceremony for awarding degrees but a declaration that students were ready to face life's challenges. "Let's move from animalistic to divine through education," he said.
Vice-chancellor Prof Suresh H Jangamashetti spoke at the event. Honorary doctorates were awarded to Sadashiva Swamiji of Hukkeri Math and writer Satish Kulkarni. Gold medals were awarded to seven students, and cash prizes were given to eleven. Degrees were awarded to a total of 1,063 students in various subjects. Recognising social and educational service, Haveri University awarded an honorary doctorate.
