Belagavi: The health standing committee of the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) approved three key proposals, including repairs to corporation vehicles, the appointment of data entry operators and the installation of face-recognition attendance systems for sanitation workers.
The meeting, chaired by standing committee chairperson Laxmi Rathod, was held on Thursday evening and was attended by mayor Preeti Kamkar, members Nitin Jadhav, Shaheed Khan Pathan, Santosh Pednekar and senior officials.
Among the major decisions, the committee cleared a proposal for the repair and maintenance of the corporation's vehicles to improve operational efficiency. It also approved the appointment of 46 data entry operators to strengthen administrative functions.
In a move aimed at improving workforce accountability, the committee decided to install face-recognition machines to monitor the attendance of sanitation workers.
The meeting also saw an extensive discussion on the city's sanitation conditions. Committee members sought ward-wise details of sanitation staff deployment; however, officials were unable to provide satisfactory information. This drew sharp criticism from members, who expressed concern that despite a substantial workforce, there has been little visible improvement in cleanliness across the city.
