Agartala: An anti-drug advocate and operator of two rehabilitation centres in Tripura, identified as Shubham Biswas, has been arrested for using offensive language and threatening a functionary from the BJP’s cultural wing, Rajesh Ghosh, on Facebook.
Biswas was arrested on Wednesday.
Ghosh, a well-known singer affiliated with the ruling party, filed an FIR at Amtali station two days ago, alleging that Biswas, who managed a rehab centre in Bishramganj in Sepahijala district and another in Agartala, threatened to sever his hands in a Facebook message.
In response, a group of Yuva Morcha leaders protested outside the Amtali police station, calling for Biswas’s arrest due to his unlawful actions. Following the FIR, police conducted a raid at a rehabilitation centre at Abhoy Nagar in the city, resulting in the arrest of Shubham Biswas, which concluded the social media conflict between the two individuals.
Leaders from Yuva Morcha claimed that while Shubham portrayed himself as a hero in the fight against drugs on social media, he had actually been soliciting funds at his rehabilitation facilities.
Feeling threatened, Shubham also filed a grievance at the West Agartala police station against Rajesh, alleging that Ghosh had been engaging in a defamatory campaign against him online. However, the West Agartala police had not yet responded to Shubham’s complaint.
