Pune: MNGL on Wednesday increased the price of CNG in Pune by Rs 2.50 from midnight on Thursday. The price of 1kg of CNG, which earlier stood at Rs 92.25 per kg, will now go up to Rs 94.75 per kg.
Before this, Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) increased the cost of CNG on May 9.
A statement released by MNGL read: “Retail price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for vehicular segment in the Pune city, including Pimpri-Chinchwad and adjoining areas of Chakan, Talegaon and Hinjewadi, shall be undergoing upward revision. Due to an increase in the input cost of natural gas for the CNG segment, it has become necessary to upwardly revise the CNG price. Despite this marginal revision, CNG still offers attractive savings of around 48% in comparison to petrol and around 26% as compared to diesel at current price levels in Pune city for the passenger car segment and around 26% for autorickshaws. The domestic Piped Natural Gas (PNG) price shall remain unchanged.”
Autorickshaw unions have been demanding an increase in the fares after the price was hiked for the first time. “With this hike, we will further push the district administration to increase the fares. The continuous hike will badly affect the many drivers,” said Keshav Kshirsagar, president of Baghtoy Rickshawaala.
