Jahangirpuri Violence Live Updates: Amit Shah directs Delhi Police to take strict action against culprits

State BJP president Adesh Gupta, Leader of Opposition in Delhi assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and MP Hansraj Hans visited the Jahangirpuri police station on Sunday and inquired about the well-being of the eight police officers injured in the violence that took place in the area a day ago. The party said in a statement that the leaders met the deputy commissioner of police, took stock of the prevailing situation and were assured that those behind the incident wouldn’t be spared.

Over 10,000 police personnel have been deployed in Noida and Ghaziabad in the aftermath of the communal clash that erupted in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri during a Hanuman Jayanti procession on Saturday night.

Commuters are in for a rough time on Monday, as several driver unions of cab, auto-rickshaw, taxi, Grameen Sewa and chartered buses have decided to go on strike. The unions, which are seeking a subsidy to offset the hike in retail prices of CNG, have warned that the stir could be extended if their demands are not met.

Both heroes and villains were at play during the riot. While parking lot attendants Tapan and Aryan rescued women, the elderly and kids, Tabraiz whisked away some other people to safety.

SI Meda Lal, who was hit by abullet during the violence, said he and other cops stood like a wall between the two communities. Women hurled stones, bricks and bottles from their terraces, he said.

Even as an uneasy calm prevailed in northwest Delhi a day after violence erupted in Jahangirpuri, Delhi Police Sunday said it was probing “a larger conspiracy” behind the rioting.
