DMK, AIADMK flay TVK govt for ‘deteriorating’ L&O in TN

Chennai: Former deputy chief minister and DMK youth wing leader Udhayanidhi Stalin and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday flayed TVK govt for the recent crimes across the state.In a post on X, Udhayanidhi said 25 murders, four double murders, and 19 sexual offences were reported in Tamil Nadu in the last 15 days. “These incidents are proof of how the law and order situation has changed under the regime of those who spoke of change. Is this Tamil Nadu or Uttar Pradesh,” he asked.Referring to a series of recent crimes, including the sexual assault and murder of a 10-year-old girl in Coimbatore and the alleged sexual assault on a minor in Villupuram district, Udhayanidhi questioned the handling of the Coimbatore case, alleging that the victim’s body was cremated in haste without informing her mother.He cited the murder of a boy near the Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai, a petrol bomb attack on a young woman’s house in Coimbatore, and vandalism by a gang that damaged 13 vehicles in Perambur, the constituency represented by chief minister C Joseph Vijay. He said, “At a time when people are living in fear over the rising number of crimes, merely convening police meetings and issuing routine statements are unacceptable.”Meanwhile, Palaniswami expressed shock over the sexual assault of a Class X student in Keelmathur, Madurai, and the murder of a 17-year-old boy near Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple.Pointing to the arrest of a TVK functionary in Tambaram for inappropriately videographing a college girl and intimidation of an EB officer’s family by TVK cadres, Palaniswami said Vijay’s party was “a major cause for concern”.Ridiculing Vijay for coming to power on the promise of change and a better future, Palaniswami remarked sarcastically about the “bubble” that TVK was trying to create around Vijay. “The CM is coming daily to the secretariat. He is having lunch in a tiffin carrier. Ah, what a change! While they are trying to create a bubble, there is bloodshed across the state,” Palaniswami said.
